Two non-governmental organisations, Cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation (CFDF), in collaboration with TY Danjuma Foundation, have partnered with the Management of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State, to offer a one-week free cleft and craniofacial deformity surgery to indigent patients in the state. In the opening ceremony, on May 14th, 2024, the Medical Director/Chief Executive, of FMC, Keffi, Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu, appreciated the Foundations for the kind gesture of rendering a free Cleft and Facial Deformity surgery to the local community. He further advised the patients in need of the special operation to make good use of the rare opportunity to access free medical services and also assured them that they were in competent and safe hands. The Founder, Cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation, Dr. Bello Sa'idu, a consultant dental surgeon, while thanking the Medical Director and the Top Management Committee (TMC) for the warm reception and support accorded them, also solicited more collaborations and cooperation. In his words, the Founder said "The foundation has existed for about 13 years, with over 4500 successful surgeries; and I hope to attend to 50 cases in FMC keffi". The Foundation, according to him, specializes on face swelling, cleft on the lips and other facial deformities. Dr. Bello Sa'idu further disclosed the need for the proposed Abuja Crano Facial Hospital to cater for patients in and around the FCT. Addressing the gathering, the representative of the Nigerian Dental Association, Nasarawa State Chapter, Dr. Labar Sunday, sincerely appreciated the Management of Federal Medical Centre Keffi for availing the Centre to serve as a venue for free surgery to patients with Cleft and Facial Deformity. In appreciation, one of the beneficiaries of the programme, Mrs. Ijeoma Duru expressed her heart-felt gratitude to the organisers for kind gestures and expressed her desire to serve as Volunteer.
