FMCK Partners with Nasarawa Govt to Eradicate Viral Hepatitis in Rural Areas. |
The Medical Director/Chief Executive of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi (FMCK), Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu, ably represented by the Head of Clinical Services (HCS), Dr Usman Agi Kana, alongside other members of the Top Management Committee (TMC), were at Doma, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, for the official flag-off of Viral Hepatitis Village Campaign/ Free Medical Outreach.
Declaring the campaign open, the Acting Governor of the State, His Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, who is also a native of the area, hinted that the campaign and free medical outreach was imperative, owing to the alarming rate of viral hepatitis infections in the area, where 15 in every 100 persons are infected; and that this was part of efforts towards making the area hepatitis free by 2030.
Corroborating the statement, the member representing Doma South in the Nasarawa State Assembly, Hon. Musa Ibrahim, hinted that he was shocked to know that about 20 people died within three months from complications related to the infection in the area. This prompted him to sponsor the bill for the Campaign/Free Medical Outreach in the state, to eradicate the menace, not just in Doma, but also the entire state.
The HCS, Dr Usman Kana, while urging the locals to avail themselves of the rare opportunity by getting tested, vaccinated, and enroll for immediate treatment (as their cases required), reiterated the Centre's commitment to continuous collaborations with the state government,
assuring them of the Dr Yahaya Adamu led management's support in the area of specialists and other man power related needs, to ensure that the viral infection in the area is reduced to the lowest minimum by 2030.
Dr Kana seized the opportunity, to once again, appreciate the Acting Governor and the state for the donation of land along Keffi-Abuja road to the hospital as permanent site, support during Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the historic successful separation of a set of conjoined twin, but to mention a few.
He pointed out that, the campaign and free medical outreach initiative was a way of appreciating the government's gestures; and that it was an opportunity for FMC, keffi, as the only federal tertiary health institution in the state, to take tertiary health services to the rural communities in the state.
The flag off event, which took place at the palace of Andoma of Doma in Doma, also featured presentation of duty van to the Management of FMC, Keffi by the Nasarawa State government, to ease staff movement to the outposts. Accommodations were also donated.
Other TMC members who accompanied the HCS, were the Head of Administration, Mr Jibrin Bawa, the Head of Nursing Services, Nrs. Mary Samuels, among others. |

NGOs PARTNER FMC KEFFI ON FREE CLEFT/CRANO- FACIAL DEFORMITY SURGERIES. |
Two non-governmental organisations, Cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation (CFDF), in collaboration with TY Danjuma Foundation, have partnered with the Management of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State, to offer a one-week free cleft and craniofacial deformity surgery to indigent patients in the state.
In the opening ceremony, on May 14th, 2024, the Medical Director/Chief Executive, of FMC, Keffi, Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu, appreciated the Foundations for the kind gesture of rendering a free Cleft and Facial Deformity surgery to the local community. He further advised the patients in need of the special operation to make good use of the rare opportunity to access free medical services and also assured them that they were in competent and safe hands.
The Founder, Cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation, Dr. Bello Sa'idu, a consultant dental surgeon, while thanking the Medical Director and the Top Management Committee (TMC) for the warm reception and support accorded them, also solicited more collaborations and cooperation.
In his words, the Founder said "The foundation has existed for about 13 years, with over 4500 successful surgeries; and I hope to attend to 50 cases in FMC keffi".
The Foundation, according to him, specializes on face swelling, cleft on the lips and other facial deformities.
Dr. Bello Sa'idu further disclosed the need for the proposed Abuja Crano Facial Hospital to cater for patients in and around the FCT.
Addressing the gathering, the representative of the Nigerian Dental Association, Nasarawa State Chapter, Dr. Labar Sunday, sincerely appreciated the Management of Federal Medical Centre Keffi for availing the Centre to serve as a venue for free surgery to patients with Cleft and Facial Deformity.
In appreciation, one of the beneficiaries of the programme, Mrs. Ijeoma Duru expressed her heart-felt gratitude to the organisers for kind gestures and expressed her desire to serve as Volunteer. |

NIGERIAN ARMY TO COLLABORATE WITH FMC, KEFFI, IN HEALTH CARE DELIVERY. |
The Nigerian Army has pledged its commitment to the welfare of men and officers. This was disclosed when the Acting Commanding Officer, Guards Brigade Medical Centre, Asokoro, Abuja, Major M. Hamji, paid an advocacy visit on the Medical Director/Chief Executive, Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu, to foster the quality of care given to its officers and men.
He pledged the Army's total commitment to given the utmost care even beyond the provisions of the National Health Insurance Scheme. He said the Army has an arrangement to bear the cost of treating any soldier. He said lines of communication should remain open at all times to achieve this desire.
The Medical Director/CE in his response promised the Army the best of health care services, agreeing to the "treat first and send the bill to us arrangement" if care given is outside health insurance coverage.
Highlight of the visit was the decoration of Major M. Hajim and his team as Ambassadors of the Centre.
Also in attendance during the visit was the HCS, Dr Usman Kana, Head of Nursing services, Nrs Mary Samuels, Pharmacist Rabiu Tanko and the Head of Finance and Accounts, Mrs Nalon Okonofua. |
